The Humber Hawks Men's and Women's Golf teams were able to handle the strong winds at LochNess Links Golf Course in Welland, Ontario on Wednesday en route to them each winning their fourth straight OCAA Championship.

The Hawks Men's team started the day in second place - four strokes back of the Georgian Grizzlies, who led for the first two rounds. The Hawks combined score of 312 in the final round was highlighted by Mike Zizek's 75 (+3). He had the best final round score on a day which featured wind gusts of over 60 km/per hour. Ryan Willoughby scored a 77 (+5), James Castle 78 (+6) and Mark Hoffman 82 (+10) to give the Hawks a three day combined score of 908 - 5 shots better than the Grizzlies. The Fanshawe Falcons finished third to win the Bronze.

Zizek would also win his second straight OCAA Gold Medal in the Men's Individual category with rounds of 73-71-75(219). Taylor Booth of the Fanshawe Falcons, who led after the first two rounds, would triple-bogey on his final hole in the final round - the LochNess Links signature 18th hole - to finish two shots back with rounds of 74-67-80(221)to claim the Silver Medal. Joey Burton of Georgian College would win Bronze with scores of 76-67-79(222).

Meanwhile, the Humber Hawks Women's Golf team also won their fourth straight OCAA Gold Medal. The Hawks combo of Danielle Green and Bev Peel put up a combined three day score of 498 to win gold. Green had a final round of 81 (+9) and Peel finished the day with a round of 95 (+13).

Like the men's results, the Georgian Grizzlies would win the Silver medal and the Fanshawe Falcons would finish in third place winning the Bronze.

Green put up rounds of 76-74-81(231), good enough to win the OCAA Gold Medal in the Women's Individual category. Kayleigh Kraemer of the Durham Lords would finish second with rounds of 75-80-89 (244). Peel, who finished fourth last year at the OCAA Championships would win Bronze with rounds of 86-86-95 (267).

Next week, College golfers will head to Windsor, Ontario to take part in the 2009 Ping Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf Open Championship hosted by St. Clair College from October 13-16. The Ambassador Golf Club will be the host course for the event.
