James Darling of St. Catharines, Ontario, with his outstanding goaltending skills, led the Niagara College Knights to the International Collegiate Hockey League Championship in 1988-1989 and 1989-1990. Many accolades were bestowed on James for his goaltending. He was named Niagara's Male Athlete of the Year in 1988-1989 and 1989-1990, was twice awarded first team and once second team All-star, was awarded league MVP of the international Hockey League and team MVP (1987, 1988, 1989). His most memorable moment was the first time he was named Niagara's Male Athlete of the Year.
